Stump grinding in Bristol
– TREE SURGERY SERVICE
What is stump grinding?
After a tree has been cut down the base of the tree and the roots remain in the ground. This small part of the trunk (which typically sits a couple of inches above ground level) can become either a trip hazard or an obstacle for a lawn mower. Thankfully this is a problem that a skilled tree surgeon can help with.
A highly-trained arborist will use a technique called stump grinding to remove the last part of the tree. The tree surgeon will use the rotating cuttings discs of a stump grinder to chip away at the wood until it is no longer visible.
What are the benefits of stump grinding?
Aesthetic improvement
Stump grinding creates a smooth and level surface, eliminating unsightly tree stumps. This can significantly improve the overall appearance of your or property.
Safety
Tree stumps can be hazardous, especially if they are hidden by grass. They can cause trips and falls, leading to injuries. Stump grinding eliminates this safety risk by removing the stump entirely.
Space optimisation
By removing tree stumps, you can reclaim valuable space in your garden. This allows you to use the area for other landscaping purposes, such as planting new trees, installing a garden, or expanding your outdoor living space.
Easier lawn care
Stumps can be challenging to mow around and can damage lawn mowers and other equipment. Removing them through stump grinding makes lawn maintenance much easier.
How is stump grinding done?
Assessment and preparation
We’ll start by assessing the stump and the surrounding area to ensure safe and efficient grinding.
A member of our team will check for any obstacles, underground utilities, or objects that may interfere with the grinding process.
Stump grinder setup
We’ll position the stump grinder near the stump, adjust its height and position to ensure we get the right access to the stump.
Stump grinding
We’ll then lower the rotating cutting wheel onto the stump and systematically grind away the surface of the stump, working from top down.
The grinding process continues until the stump is ground down to a depth that is typically 6 to 12 inches below the surface.
Cleanup
After the grinding is complete, we’ll clean up the area, making sure any debris or woodchips are removed. Once done, we’ll invite you to have a look to make sure you’re happy with how the area looks and the end result.
