– TREE SURGERY SERVICE
What is tree reduction?
Tree reduction involves carefully reducing the height of a tree and/or selectively removing foliage to reduce stress on individual branches or the tree as a whole. This activity of reducing the overall size of a tree is typically done to reduce the effects of shading and light loss.
The final result should retain the main framework of the tree and leave a similar, albeit smaller outline. The aim shouldn’t be to achieve symmetry for its own sake. At Bristol Tree Services our arborists use a variety of methods when completing a tree reduction.
If the aim of the tree reduction is to remove the overall size of the tree, then our team of arborists may use the crown reduction method. This involves carefully accessing, selecting and trimming outer branches of the tree. This is done to relieve the stress and load on the tree.
Using this technique, our skilled arborists will cut the smaller outer branches back to the stronger lateral branch. This is done to help reduce the risk of decay and disease in the tree.
Our team of tree surgeons employ this method of reduction when we want to encourage a tree to grow in a certain direction. This is normally done when a tree is growing in an undesirable direction.
Other tree reduction techniques
From time to time and where the project requires it, the Bristol Tree Services also use different tree reduction techniques. These include thinning out, pollarding and deadwood removal.
